Background Searches
What is the difference between the Background Searches found on the Internet and the Background Searches that NMS does?
We are a full-service records research provider. Internet searches only check databases that are available on a particular statewide network.
I like the idea of Background Searches. Does the employee have to sign a consent form before I can begin the process of the background search?
Yes. An employer may not perform any type of background search on an employee or prospective employee without signed consent from that applicant/employee. Our job at NMS is to make sure that you get accurate and legal Background Searches.
As an employer, can I be held accountable if I do not perform Background Searches?
Yes. It is your responsibility to adequately screen all applicants. Many employers are not aware of the liability associated with inadequate employment screening methods and as a result, employers increase their exposure to lawsuits.
What types of Background Searches do you recommend before I hire my next employee?
NMS recommends the following searches:
- Federal Criminal
- Felony and Misdemeanor
- Education Verification
- Employment Verification
- Social Security Verification
- Driver's License Verification
- Drug Screening
