Why should we drug test?
You should test for drug abuse to:
- reduce Worker's Compensation premiums
- reduce medical claims
- reduce liability exposure
- reduce employee theft
- increase productivity
- lower absenteeism
Additionally, DOT regulatory requirements are mandated; and State
requirements have to be met to obtain state funded contracts.

I think drug testing is
a good idea, but I'm concerned that I can't get enough people to
hire that are drug free. What have you experienced?
It is likely you will have fewer applicants, at the beginning of
the program. As word gets around that your company is serious about
its hiring practices, you will get a higher of quality employee
prospects. All classified advertisements should include notice of
a drug free workplace.

Do I need to test all
my employees after I implement a Drug Free Workplace Program?
Some states require that you give a notice or grace period before
testing any existing employee. However, you must begin testing all
applicants upon the implementation of your Drug Free Workplace Program.
If you think you may want to test all of your employees (after the
notice or grace period), your Account Manager can provide several
options.

What about people who
are on prescription medications? Do I need to get that information
from them?
Absolutely not! It's against the Americans with Disabilities Act
and as an employer, by law, you shouldn't know if an employee or
job applicant is taking a prescription medication. Also, one of
the main duties of our certification Medical Review Officers is
to determine what is legal drug usage (including over-the-counter
medications) and what constitutes illegal drug usage.

How quickly will test
results come back?
You should receive a Negative test result within 24 hours. However,
for NMS to provide a legally defensible drug screen -- a test that
shows positive on the initial screening -- will be sent for a confirmation
test which can take an additional day or two.

What do I do in case of an accident?
It is important that you have a plan in place if one of your employees
has an accident. NMS will work with you to create a post-accident
plan that best meets your company's needs.
