EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
What is an Employee Assistance
Program?
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to provide assistance
to your employees and their immediate family members through confidential
and professional referrals so they may resolve problems that affect
their personal lives and job performance. Our Certified Employee
Assistance Professionals will evaluate the issue, recommend a plan
of action and monitor that plan to ensure the employee is following
the recommendations for treatment while decreasing employer liability.

Why should I have an Employee Assistance
Program?
First, the EAP is the support system of any Drug Free Workplace.
It says your company values its employees. Second, the EAP allows
employees to keep valued employees who test positive in violation
of your company's Drug Free Workplace Program.

Is an Employee Assistance Program a requirement
if you have a Drug Free Workplace?
No. It's not a requirement. However, NMS can tailor a cost effective Employee
Assistance Program to complement your drug free workplace.

Does DOT require employers to have an
employee Assistance Program?
DOT does require that you have resources available for drivers,
who receive a confirmed positive test result to consult with a Substance
Abuse Professional. An EAP is the best way to ensure that your driver
speaks with a Substance Abuse Professional and received the proper
treatment to return to work in a timely manner.

BACKGROUND CHECKS
What is the difference between the background checks found
on the Internet and the background checks that NMS does?
We are a full-service records research provider. Internet searches
only check databases that are available on a particular statewide
network.

I like the idea of background checks.
Does the employee have to sign a consent before I can begin the
process of the background check?
Yes! An employer may not perform any type of background check on
an employee or prospective employee without a signed consent from
that applicant/employee. Our job at NMS is to make sure that you
get accurate and legal background checks.

As an employer, can I be held accountable
if I do not perform background checks?
Yes. It is your responsibility to adequately screen all applicants.
Many employers are not aware of the liability associated with inadequate
employment screening methods and as a result, employers increase
their exposure to lawsuits.

What types of background checks do you
recommend before I hire my next employee?
NMS recommends the following searches:
- Federal Criminal
- Felony and Misdemeanor
- Education Verification
- Employment Verification
- Social Security Verification
- Driver's License Verification
- Drug Screening
